Wimbachgrieshütte, 1326 m
A stunning valley head between the Watzmann and Hochkalter mountains. This breathtakingly beautiful tour leads us right into the heart of Berchtesgaden National Park. Our route is easy and requires good weather, as the appeal of this hike lies in the magnificent scenery surrounding the Wimbach Valley. Our destination is the Wimbachgrieshütte (closed in winter), where sunny benches along the hut wall invite you to rest and admire the view. Here we can sit and enjoy the panorama, as a ring of impressive rocky peaks rises above the wide valley floor: Watzmann, Palfelhörner, and Hochkalter – it doesn't get any more beautiful than this! We are hiking in the heart of Berchtesgaden National Park, so please stay on the marked trails and plan your hikes so that you are not out at dusk, in order to avoid disturbing the animals while they are foraging for food.
