Westweg stage 02: Dobel – Forbach
- 26.5 km
- 07: 30 pm
- 511 m
- 907 m
The second stage showcases the typical landscapes of the Northern Black Forest in a single day: rustling coniferous forests, magnificent views, boggy hilltops, and deeply carved river valleys. The gentle ascent from Dobel to Kaltenbronn is punctuated by numerous vistas, most of which are a result of the devastating Lothar storm (Christmas 1999). The trail then descends steeply along rocky paths past the Latschigfelsen rock formation into the wild Murg Valley towards Forbach.
On the outskirts of Dobel, the Westweg trail re-enters the deep coniferous forests. It ascends gently along the ridge between the Alb and Eyach rivers towards Kaltenbronn. The Westweg trail always runs below the ridge line, first to Weithäuslesplatz, then with panoramic views below the Schweizerkopf mountain to the Hahnenfalzhütte mountain hut.
