Westfalenhaus, 2273 m
The Westfalenhaus, an alpine base in the Längental valley near Lüsens, was built in 1908 by the Münster section of the German Alpine Club (DAV) and thoroughly renovated a few years ago. It is surrounded by imposing three-thousand-meter peaks, forming what is arguably the wildest section of the Sellrain Mountains. The approach from Lüsens is quite straightforward, with two different routes offering added variety. The Westfalenhaus is also known for its excellent cuisine. It attracts not only day hikers and mountaineers but is also a stop on the magnificent Sellrain Hut Circuit, which is described in detail in the Rother hiking guide "Trekking in the Stubai".
Starting point: Lüsens, 1634 m, paid parking lot at the end of the public valley road. Access from Gries im Sellrain (no direct bus connection). Requirements: T2. Ordinary mountain hiking trails without particular difficulties.
