A classic summit hike with a stop at the rustic Gurndinalm. Nobel laureate in physics Max Planck (1858–1947) spent his holidays here – and it was an excellent choice: As one of the highest villages in South Tyrol, the scattered settlement of Radein offers magnificent views across the landscape. The village is dominated by the Weißhorn, a striking mountain whose color and shape are aptly described by its name. On the way to the summit, there are breathtaking views into the upper reaches of the Bletterbach Gorge.
Starting point: Radein, parking lot (1550 m) between the Gothic parish church of St. Wolfgang and the Geomuseum. Access from Auer in the Adige Valley (follow signs towards Val di Fiemme), past Montan, turn left after Kaltenbrunn.
