Through almond groves down to the valley floorTejeda is the most beautiful mountain village in Gran Canaria: its terraced houses nestle against the hillside, a green oasis amidst barren and jagged rocks. But the destination of La Culata is also worth a visit: a secluded hamlet buried so deep in the valley floor that the sun barely reaches it in winter.
Starting point: Petrol station at the southern end of Tejeda, 1049 m. On the GC-60 to Ayacata; bus stop for bus routes 18 and 305.Requirements: The ascent to Cruz de Timagada is strenuous, otherwise an easy hike, initially on the road, then marked paths throughout.Note: The tour is suitable for bus and car drivers.
