Val d'Inferno – Torrente Rovigo
Fairytale Gorge and Waterfall Pool: Due to higher rainfall, deep gorges formed on the northern side of the Apennines in the Pietra Serena, the horizontally layered sandstone that is still quarried today. One of these dusty ravines branches out in its upper reaches into two remote canyons that can be explored in one go.
Starting point: Badia di Moscheta, 569 m, above Firenzuola. Directions: From Florence to San Piero a Sieve, then towards Firenzuola. Shortly before the town, in the hamlet of Violla, turn sharply right and cross a saddle to Moscheta. Parking is available in front of the horse farm at the entrance to the small settlement. Train and bus: No bus service.
