Schwarzkogel, 3016 m
One of the easiest 3,000-meter peaks above the Ötztal Valley: Climbing the Schwarzkogel is a mixed bag. On the one hand, it's rare to find such an easy way to reach a 3,000-meter peak and enjoy the view of the Ötztal Alps' glaciers at eye level. However, the other side of the coin cannot be ignored, as the Schwarzkogel has fallen prey to rampant winter sports development. This atmosphere accompanies us every step of the way. All the more remarkable, then, is the gem of the Schwarzsee, nestled between the Rotkogel and Schwarzkogel, which astonishes us with its rugged beauty and sheer size. Overall, a tour with very mixed impressions.
Starting point: Giggijochbahn mountain station, 2284 m, from Sölden. Operating hours: end of June to mid-September, 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternatively, you can start in Hochsölden, 2083 m (see tour 33) or take the Langegg chairlift to the Rotkogelhütte. Difficulty: T3. Mostly groomed ski slopes, some with truck-width tracks, others trails.
