One of the easiest 3,000-meter peaks above the Ötztal Valley: Climbing the Schwarzkogel is a mixed bag. On the one hand, it's rare to find such an easy way to reach a 3,000-meter peak and enjoy the view of the Ötztal Alps' glaciers at eye level. However, the other side of the coin cannot be ignored, as the Schwarzkogel has fallen prey to rampant winter sports development. This atmosphere accompanies us every step of the way. All the more remarkable, then, is the gem of the Schwarzsee, nestled between the Rotkogel and Schwarzkogel, which astonishes us with its rugged beauty and sheer size.
