On ground steeped in history This hiking tour in the west of Bruneck is like a journey through the millennia. On the hills around St. Lorenzen numerous Neolithic and Bronze Age sites have been discovered (up to 3,800 years old); the remains of the Roman camp of Sebatum lie directly on the Pustertal road, the Sonnenburg hill was once crowned by a monastery that contributed a not insignificant episode to the history of Tyrol (now a hotel), on the heights behind St. Martin, the Michelsburg castle towers majestically into the sky, and the church of St. Lorenzen preserves a special treasure: the "Grape Madonna", an early work by Michael Pacher from Bruneck (around 1460).
Starting point: St. Lorenzen, 810 m, neighboring village of Bruneck on the south bank of the Rienz. Good train and bus connections.Requirements: Extensive walk.Refreshment: In St. Lorenzen, Stefansdorf (short detour into the village) and St. Martin.Tips: Archaeological theme trail with 16 display boards at the Sonnenburger Kopf.
