Reinbach Falls, 1172 m
Hidden Water Features: Where the Reintal valley flows into the Tauferer valley, a mighty gorge lies hidden in the forest. The water has carved deep into the rock walls, forming numerous cascades. The Reinbach's most spectacular features, however, are three roaring waterfalls, and well-constructed viewing platforms offer optimal views of the rushing water. Instead of following the signposted waterfall trail, it's more pleasant to hike the newly created St. Francis Trail, thus avoiding the monotonous and steep sections of the old path. The St. Francis Trail is a contemplative path that leads from Winkel along the Reinbach Falls up to the ruins of Toblburg (or Koflburg), where, in addition to a few old wall remnants, we can visit the interestingly designed St. Francis and St. Clare Chapel with its mystical crypt.
Starting point: Winkel, parking lot at the waterfall bar, 864 m. Coming from Bruneck, turn right after Mühlen and drive via Kematen and Winkel to the parking lot. Or from Sand in Taufers via Winkel to the parking lot. Public transport: Bus connection from Bruneck (Pustertalbahn train station) to Sand in Taufers, from there it's about a 20-minute walk to the waterfall bar.
