An abundance of scenery and the ascent of a curious rock castle Variety is guaranteed on this exciting circular tour with a summit interlude. Punta Cochata, with its unmistakable shape, comes into view again and again on the various hiking trails in the region. The mountain appears to be accessible only to climbers, and only very late on does it become apparent that the western side is not so difficult to conquer. From the summit, the reward for the effort is a magnificent panoramic view over the Valle de Tena. The way back leads past the Embalse de Escarra and then descends through the steep gorge walls into the valley - on a path called the "Camino de los Forzados": the "Forced Laborers" Path". Political prisoners under the Franco regime were forced to use this path to bring up the material for the construction of the dam. If you add the detour to "El Saldo" to your round trip, you will have completed an exhausting day hike.
Starting point: Parking lot at the tunnel of Escarrilla, 1180 m. From Escarrilla in the direction of Sallent de Gállego, just before the tunnel entrance turn left into a small parking area (be careful when turning, oncoming traffic from the tunnel!). Bus from Biescas.Requirements: Some steep climbs; half the tour is in the shade.
