In the footsteps of a great painter to the mighty Spanish fortifications of Porto ErcoleSurrounded by three defiant fortresses, the picturesque harbor town of Porto Ercole lies in a sheltered bay on the Monte Argentario peninsula. A circular tour connects the fortifications with ever-changing views of the coast and harbor. In the town, the Percorso Caravaggio is our guide. The famous but scandalous painter died in Porto Ercole in 1610 in an unexplained manner.
Starting point: Parking lot in Piazza Americo Vespucci at the entrance to Porto Ercole. There is also a bus stop next to it.Requirements: Easy paths alternate with paths and steps. Between La Piletta and Forte Stella there is a steep and bumpy descent.
