Lunar landscape on the roof of the Madonie There are many ways to get to Pizzo Carbonara, the highest mountain in the Madonie and also the highest non-volcanic mountain in Sicily. An entertaining and easier undertaking compared to the black tour "Pizzo Carbonara, east ascent" is the ascent via the doline-covered western flank from the Ostello della Gioventù. With magnificent views over large parts of the island, we enjoy the tranquillity of this peaceful landscape. Incidentally, this is the southeasternmost limit of the distribution of the typical bushy beech trees.
