Ödseen und Herrentisch

Lakeside idyll at the AlmtalerhausSome people are certainly satisfied with a visit to the Almtalerhaus, as you can get there in your own vehicle. But the area surrounding the hut, the Hintere Hetzau with the mighty north face of the Schermberg at the head of the valley, belongs to mountain hikers! From here, experienced hikers can climb the highest peak in the Totes Gebirge, the Großer Priel (2515 m; see tour 17), in five hours. However, the romantic Ödseen lakes (nature reserve) surrounded by dense forests and the "Herrentisch" viewing platform are more suitable destinations for hikers. A rewarding half-day program, especially with children, who can play and swim on the shores of the two lakes.
