Mountain hike with mine tourIn S-charl, silver and lead were the main minerals mined. We can deepen our knowledge of this mining, which was carried out very intensively for a long time from the 12th century onwards, by visiting the "Schmelzra" (now the "Bergwerk- und Bärenmuseum"). The ruined buildings have been restored and can be visited. The Mot Madlain (Mot = hilltop, hill) is located in front of the mighty Piz Madlain, a three-thousand-meter peak. You can combine the mountain hike with a tour of the tunnels by booking in advance at the tourist information office. The entrance to this tunnel is located below the summit. The rare combination of a mountain hike with an exciting insight into the mining facilities of earlier times is particularly suitable as a "motivational aid" if you are traveling with children. There is also a short "bear trail" with corresponding information boards for them.
Starting point: S-charl summer village, 1810 m, accessible from Scuol on a partly single-lane mountain road. Large parking lots at the entrance to the village.
