Effortless climb to a superb viewpoint: Monte Stivo stands somewhat isolated at the northeastern end of Lake Garda. But this is also its strength, as it offers a magnificent panoramic view. The ascent is no problem even for those who are afraid of heights, and just below the summit, the Rifugio Prospero Marchetti awaits, offering regional cuisine and the option of an overnight stay in a family-run atmosphere. Those seeking a bit more of a thrill can descend not via the ascent route, but continue northwards down to Bassa Madonnina and return via Coste Pozze.
Starting point: Valley town: Chienis, 943 m; a small village in the Val di Gesta. Accessible via a well-maintained, winding road from Loppio (on the Mori – Riva connecting road), 11,5 km. Starting point: Picnic area above the Passo S. Barbara.
