The large cross above Lake Santo: The city of Parma owes its name neither to cheese nor ham, but to a river that rises on Monte Marmagna. The northeast side of this mountain, which plunges down to Lunigiana with rugged cliffs, belongs to the "Park of a Hundred Lakes." Lake Santo, the most beautiful of these lakes, has been considered sacred since ancient times – like its namesake in the province of Modena.
Starting point: Lagdei, 1254 m, near Cirone (east of the pass of the same name). Directions: From Pontremoli, briefly head towards Passo della Cisa, then turn right onto a narrow road over the Passo di Cirone to Cirone and right again to Lagdei, where there is a large car park by the restaurant. Train and bus: No connection.
