Montaña de la Cinta, 440 m

A breathtaking summit hike to Yaiza's local mountain. The ridge at the foot of Montaña de la Cinta holds a very special place in the island's history. From there, the Yaiza parish priest, Lorenzo Curbeto, witnessed the most dramatic natural event of modern times in the Canary Islands and recorded the famous sentence in his diary: "On September 1, 1730, the earth suddenly opened up, two hours from Yaiza near Timanfaya." Over the next six years, an area of ​​approximately 200 km² with ten villages disappeared beneath the volcanic eruptions. The summit of Montaña de la Cinta offers magnificent views of the volcanoes created by these eruptions.
