Original mini-climbing trail on the eastern shore of Lake TraunseeIf you have a penchant for original climbing routes, want to get close to Lake Traunsee and perhaps even risk a dip in its cool waters, then the Miesweg is just the thing for you. The short trail leads along the eastern shore of the lake under the western walls of the mighty Traunstein and used to be an important access route from Gmunden to the Lainau valley. The path, which was destroyed in 1963 when a forest road was built, was restored in 1979. It is the prototype of a - in practical terms - insignificant facility today, but is still interesting due to its scenic beauty and originality. The wooden walkways of the Miesweg, which are attached to vertical walls just above the lake, are also great fun for children.
Starting point: Turning point (parking lot) at the southern end of Traunsteinstraße on the eastern shore of Lake Traunsee, 443 m (bus stop), 5.5 km from Gmunden. See " Mountain hiking by hiking bus or Traunsee call cab", introduction, p.
