Montafon cultural landscape below the Hochjoch massif: Anyone hiking across the well-maintained Schruns alpine pastures below the Hochjoch massif can still feel a touch of the spirit of bygone days, when many Montafon residents lived solely from meager agriculture and needed every last grassy slope to support their large families.
Starting point: Schruns train station, 680 m, underground parking. Requirements: Well-marked farm tracks and paths, quiet mountain roads. Moderate inclines. Refreshments: Gasthof Kropfen at the Hochjochbahn cable car, www.kropfen-hochjoch.at. We walk from the train station in Schruns towards Silbertal and uphill to the church.
