Two easily accessible panoramic peaks: Due to its magnificent views, the Kreuzjoch has been equipped with a panoramic display board, allowing hikers to study the surrounding peaks. This makes the Kreuzjoch very popular even in winter. Its higher neighbor, the Karkofel, offers almost the same view, but the panorama of the Sarntal Alps and the Dolomites is even more stunning. However, since the path to its summit is somewhat longer, the Karkofel usually remains pleasantly quiet. The summit, with its steep flank dropping down to the Sarntal valley, belies its easy accessibility from the west: A wide plateau connects the Kreuzjoch and Karkofel, making the hike from one peak to the other a leisurely stroll. The path to both peaks leads via the Auenjoch, making this tour easily combined with a visit to the Stoanernen Mandln (Stone Men).
Starting point: Valley town / Starting point: Sarnthein, 961 m. Parking lot, 1614 m, at the Sarner ski hut. Directions: Drive past the large parking lot on the southern edge of Sarnthein and, following the signs for Auen and Sarner ski hut, up a good mountain road to the (closed in winter) Sarner ski hut.
