Kreuzeck, 2701 m

In the valley of rushing waters, the Kreuzeck, while not the highest peak in the group of the same name—that honor belongs to the Polinik—gives its name to the small mountain range from its central location. The Kreuzeck group is characterized by its tranquility and solitude; on the long connecting trails between mountain huts, individualists among the mountaineers find themselves among their own kind. Only in the peripheral areas, accessible by car or cable car, do hikers congregate. Thus, the Kreuzeck is one of the less frequented peaks, receiving most of its visitors as the mountain for the Feldnerhütte. For experienced hikers, there is a beautiful ascent through the water-rich Wöllatal valley, along the Wöllabach stream, across the enchanting alpine meadows of the Staller Wölla, and past the idyllic Feldsee lake. In the Wöllatal valley, the Kelag power company collects water in a reservoir, which is then diverted into the Mölltal valley. We can drive almost to the lake, which shortens our ascent by about two hours. Although the road is not open to general traffic, driving on it at one's own risk is tolerated.
