Clever route over the ZigersteinA large summit cross greets you from the Kohlbergspitze, the western corner of the Danielkamm, down into the Zwischentoren and lures hikers with reasonable surefootedness and stamina up to the great view over the Außerferner region. Apart from the more frequently used normal route, ambitious hikers have the option of completing a traverse of the mountain using a clever alternative route. This involves heading more to the west, touching the Zigerstein (sometimes also spelled "Zingerstein"), a brilliant rock head and scrambling over steep rocks towards the summit. This turns an average tour into a pretty exclusive experience!
Starting point: Bichlbach, 1079 m, in the Außerfern between Reutte and Lermoos. Stop of the Außerfernbahn, also bus connection from Reutte.Requirements: T4. Over the Zigerstein on steep scree, surefootedness required, marked throughout, but only sparsely groomed, individual sections in grade I. The normal route, on the other hand, is a decent mountain trail (T2-3).
