Kofel, 1342 m

A brisk climb up Oberammergau's local mountain: The Kofel is a bit of a show-off, much like the ghost train at Munich's Oktoberfest. From the outside, it looks quite frightening, but once you look behind the scenes, it turns out to be pretty harmless. Admittedly, there are a few wire cables hung around the summit for support, but these are pointedly avoided by experienced mountaineers. They don't take their hands out of their pockets because, in their opinion, it's unnecessary on the Kofel. Nevertheless, you shouldn't approach the rugged ascent to the summit too recklessly, because beside the path, it's quite a drop.
