The most daring section of the Klagenfurt Jubilee Trail: Hocharn and Hoher Sonnblick are among the most significant peaks in the Kleines Fleißtal valley. A traverse of both peaks is considered an outstanding tour for experienced mountaineers. The summits drop off very steeply to the north, while the sun-facing sides are more accessible. There, we hike in the footsteps of historical mining sites. The ascent to the Goldzechscharte pass is characterized by old, dilapidated mine tunnels and yellowish-brown spoil heaps. Former gold mining in the Hohe Tauern mountains flourished until around 1580. "The calf is out, the cow is still inside" is a local saying, because in 3000 years of mining, only one-fifth of the Tauern gold has been extracted. The "golden remainder" will remain undiscovered due to legal restrictions (8-10 grams of gold per ton of rock).
Starting point: Valley town: Heiligenblut, 1301 m. Starting point: "Alter Pocher", 1807 m. Access from Heiligenblut (see Tour 6). Requirements: Only possible in favorable weather and good conditions (June – September). From Zirmsee to the Goldzechscharte, mostly without a trail, unmarked, somewhat strenuous. Sure-footedness is required in some places on the way to Hocharn.
