Heimgarten, 1791 m
Bavaria, seen from above: The Benediktenwand is a few meters higher, but the Heimgarten offers a more atmospheric panoramic view. This is partly due to the absence of the green foothills, but primarily because of "its" lakes: Walchensee and Kochelsee in a bird's-eye view, and further out in the lowlands, Staffelsee and Riegsee, with Lake Starnberg in the distance. The view of the Alps is also impressive; jagged peaks stand out far and wide. Many visitors come from the Herzogstand, an extremely popular ridge hike, which can also be accessed from the top thanks to the cable car. But such an exposed summit deserves to be climbed from the valley: a good thousand meters of elevation gain, a ridge walk, and countless beautiful landscapes that combine at the top to form a grand panorama of the Upper Bavarian landscape.
Starting point: Hiking parking lot at the Kaltwasserlaine (Heimgartenstraße, approx. 730 m), accessible from the center of Ohlstadt. Requirements: Easy, very varied loop.
