Hegerberg, 655 m
A panoramic viewpoint in the western Vienna Woods: Thanks to its isolated location on the northern edge of the western Vienna Woods and its ideal distance from the foothills of the Alps, the Hegerberg is arguably one of the best panoramic viewpoints in the Vienna area. The mountain hut at the summit is a meeting point for hikers seeking heights and fresh air, who enjoy a traditional Austrian snack while taking in the magnificent panorama. The fact that the Hegerberg can also be reached by car from Stössing or Mayerhöfen is particularly noticeable on sunny weekends, when it can get quite crowded. Nevertheless, anyone wishing to experience the charming Lower Austrian Alpine foothills – which no one has described more aptly than the poet Josef Weinheber, who lived in this region for many years – should climb the mountain on a bright spring day. It's a walk through green fields and blooming, fragrant meadows that will enchant even the most seasoned hikers.
Starting point: Fahrafeld, 285 m, south of Böheimkirchen, 5 km from the motorway (Böheimkirchen exit). Parking available in the village, bus stop. Requirements: Easy hike on marked trails.
