The fact that the Hegerberg can also be reached by car from Stössing or Mayerhöfen is particularly noticeable on sunny weekends, when it can get quite crowded. Nevertheless, anyone wishing to experience the charming Lower Austrian Alpine foothills – which no one has described more aptly than the poet Josef Weinheber, who lived in this region for many years – should climb the mountain on a bright spring day. It's a walk through green fields and blooming, fragrant meadows that will enchant even the most seasoned hikers.
