Steep peaks rise above Kitzbühel. Southeast of Kitzbühel, on the drive towards Pass Thurn, two "steep teeth" stand out clearly on the left, contrasting sharply with the surrounding wooded and meadow hills. This pair is the Bischof and the Große Gebra. While the former has a few minor issues for ski touring and the summit is usually only accessible on foot, the Gebra can be climbed on skis all the way to its highest point. The steep summit structure gives the ascent a somewhat more challenging character and should therefore not be underestimated. Should conditions make the climb inadvisable, the Weißkopfkogel to the left offers a perfect alternative. After the fantastic view and, hopefully, an equally fantastic descent, the Wildalm, with its small sun terrace, beckons halfway up. This little hut, run by the Austrian Alpine Club (Naturfreunde), is lovingly managed by Wolfgang Feiersinger and offers not only hot and cold drinks but also simple meals. Many whimsical decorative items on the old wooden walls are also worth seeing. Despite all the fun, one should remember that half the descent is still ahead – so when in doubt, it's better to drink one less beer than one too many.
