Friedrich-August-Weg (western section)
Spectacular ridge hike across the Seiser Alm and Duron Valley. Undoubtedly, the western Friedrich-August-Weg, the crossing of the Seiser Kamm ridge ("Auf der Schneid") from the Fassa Pass to the Tierser Alpl Pass, doesn't quite possess the allure of the eastern route. However, it still remains a fascinating high-altitude trek between Val Gardena and Val di Fassa, across the Seiser Alm and Duron Valley. On the return journey to Campitello, we are then treated to the beauty of the inner Valle di Duron, its towering cliffs, picturesque alpine pastures, and famous "elephant's back" ridges.
Starting point: Rifugio Micheluzzi, 1860 m, in the central part of the Valle di Duron. Ascent from the village center of Campitello (parking, bus stop for line B101) by taxi shuttle (shuttle service from June 10th to October 10th; Taxi Riz Vicenzo, Tel. +39/336/352881; Taxi Dolomites, Tel. +39/348/2980251), then 1 hour 15 minutes on foot. Requirements: Easy but long hike.
