This stage takes us from Eferding in the heart of the fertile Eferding Basin to the Danube, then along the mighty river and through its floodplains to Wilhering on the Danube. Along the way, we discover one of Austria's oldest towns, the Danube as a waterway, the significance of navigational markers, the Danube's giant fish, the ancient settlement area of Wilhering, and much more. Description: This Danube Trail stage starts in Eferding. The historic town lies in the center of the Eferding Basin, a few kilometers south of the current course of the Danube. Eferding is the third oldest town in Austria and captivates visitors with its beautiful town center. The magnificent town square, with Starhemberg Castle extending from it, speaks of past prosperity and power.
