The Great Devil's Stone Round

The Teufelstein (Devil's Stone), Fischbach's local mountain, is a popular peak at almost 1500 meters above sea level. It features a striking rock formation, a summit cross, and views of parts of the Northern Limestone Alps, such as the Hochschwab, Veitsch, and Rax mountains, extending as far south as the Schöckl, Graz's local mountain. Fischbach offers a wonderful starting point for hikes and excellent infrastructure that will delight any hiker: a bakery, a confectionery with a chocolate factory, a grocery store, numerous restaurants, and a well-maintained swimming pond. The Teufelstein, with its bizarre weathering formation, is a very special place of power, around which several legends and stories have grown. One such tale tells of the devil Lucifer attempting to build a tower to heaven to reach the realm of the blessed. He failed, but that's how the stone got its name. The winter solstice is a very special experience, as numerous hikers make their way to this spot in the early morning to experience the sunrise together.
