From the most curious of the "villages perchés" to a striking vantage point"Le plus curieux village des Alpes-Maritimes", Peille welcomes its guests on a sign. Indeed, this medieval village is exceptional. Built on a steep slope above the Ravin de Faquin gorge, the houses look as if they could slide down into the depths at any time. The backdrop: steep rock faces with the occasional shrub clinging to them. High above, the Cime de Baudon dominates the landscape. From its summit, the view of the coastline and the sea between Menton and Nice is unobstructed, as is the high alpine heart of the Maritime Alps with all its showpiece mountains.
Starting point: Peille, 655 m. Access by car: From La Turbie (above Monaco) via the D53 to the medieval district of Peille. Halfway along the thoroughfare, a stairway branches off uphill. Free parking on the roadside.By public transport: From Nice (Nice Vauban) take bus 116 to Peille Village; only 3 times a day (timetable: lignesdazur.com).
