Unobstructed views of the Tennengau region: The Barmsteine rock towers on the ridge stretching north between Marktschellenberg and Hallein are a landmark of Hallein. Their steep eastern faces offer particularly rewarding views of the Salzach Valley, the Dachstein massif, and the Tennengebirge mountains. They can be reached from Marktschellenberg via a beautiful and pleasantly shaded hiking trail.
Starting point: Center of Marktschellenberg, 480 m, a picturesque resort town on the Berchtesgadener Ache river, near the church. Parking is available there. Accessible by Oberbayernbus from Berchtesgaden. Requirements: With the exception of the Barmsteine rock formations, which require sure-footedness and a head for heights, the hiking trails are easy and well-marked.
