To the summit hut high above Lake Walen The Alvier is one of the best vantage points in eastern Switzerland. Its location in the mountain range between the St. Gallen Rhine Valley and the Walensee furrow opens up magnificent views, for example of the Grisons and Glarus Alps, the striking Churfirsten chain and far into Vorarlberg and Tyrol. At the small, modest summit hut, paths from different sides converge, with various roads on the Werdenberg shortening access. We opt here for the popular steep path that leads from the Palfrieser Alpbalkon towards the summit and return via the east-facing Schaneralp, thus making a kind of loop around the striking Gauschla. At the top, you can see as far as the eye can see and will probably be most fascinated by the fjord-like Walensee. And if you are a mountain romantic with enough leisure time, you should stay in the Alvierhütte to capture the very special atmosphere ...
