Bird island and love nestThis hiking suggestion includes a well-known and a hidden highlight. The well-known one is Bird Island, which was created to give water birds a safe place to breed and live on the newly created reservoir. The viewing platform on the island has become a magnet for bird lovers, who use their cameras to follow the action in the water. Less well known is the community of Wald, today a district of Gunzenhausen. It was here that the Wild Margrave of Ansbach acquired a hunting lodge in 1749, which also served as his love nest.
Starting point: Muhr am See station, 419 m. From Nuremberg main station take the S4 to Ansbach, then the RB in the direction of Treuchtlingen to Muhr am See. Or take the RE to Treuchtlingen, then the RB in the direction of Würzburg to Muhr am See. Parking lot at the train station (Navi: 91735 Muhr am See, Bahnhofstraße).End point: Gunzenhausen train station, 416 m.
