Live tracking on Everest – Jost Kobusch ends winter expedition

After a windy winter on the world's highest mountain, Jost Kobusch is likely glad to return to civilization. Just like two years ago, the world watched our progress with bated breath this winter. Live Tracker and followed Jost's every move as he tried to climb the career ladder.

Jost's goal, as it had been two years prior, was to climb Everest in winter, solo and without the use of supplemental oxygen – via the challenging and extremely rarely travelled west ridge. However, Jost admitted beforehand that a summit success was very unlikely and the focus was on gaining experience and, if possible, breaking his high point of 7.300 m (winter 2020) and ideally the 8000 m mark.

Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate, which is to be expected in the Himalayas during winter, but not necessarily to this extent: According to meteorologists, the Himalayas haven't experienced such a stormy winter in a long time, probably not since 2006. The result was tattered tents and very small, too small weather windowsAfter 2.5 months on the mountain, his last push attempt ended at Camp 3 at 6500 m.

We are certainly glad that Jost is back safe and sound and are excited about his future adventures.
